About Skelmersdale

The town of Skelmersdale lies in West Lancashire on high-ground, 13 miles northeast of Liverpool. According to the 2006 census, Skelmersdale had a population of 38,813, a decline from 41,000. In 1961, Skelmersdale was designated as a 'new town'. Until the creation of Skelmersdale Urban District Council at the end of the 19th century. The town was designed to accommodate both plant life and compact housing estates. Even in the town centre there is an unusually large amount of forestation. The large Beacon County Park lies to the west of Skelmersdale and is home to a rich diversity of flora and fauna.
